Alamogordo : New Mexico

Alamogordo is a county seat of Otero County. The name is derived from Spanish for "cottonwood". Alamogordo lies on the edge of the Sacramento Mountains. It is in the metropolitan center of the Tularosa Basin. The city covers a total area of of 50.1 km² (19.4 mi²), all land. Alamogordo experiences a desert type of climate with warm sunny days and cool evening. The skies are almost always blue and clear for star watching. The city receives an average rainfall of about 11 inches a year.
