Introduction A city of Lea County, Hobbs lies in the southeast corner of New
Mexico. Hobbs is 97 miles from Midland, Texas, 18 miles from
Albuquerque, 234 miles from El Paso and 69 miles from Carlsbad, New
Mexico. The city covers a total area of 49.0 km².
The city was
named after James Isaac Hobbs family, who arrived in March 1907. It is
considered the Oil Capitol of New Mexico. The city boasts of some of the
best health care facilities of the state. It also has several
recreation and business facilities as well. There are numerous day-care
centers, several church-supported schools and several special
education centers as well.
Hobbs enjoys mild weather throughout
the year. Spring is usually dry and windy while summers are usually
warm. Winter is also mild with real winter setting in late in the
season. The winter daytime average temperature is 33.9 degrees F. and
the summer daytime average temperature is 80.1 degrees F. Hobbs receives
an annual snowfall of 5 inches rainfall of 14.6 inches.
